Mapulemu Garden
A journey through Chile's native flora
In the middle of San Cristóbal Hill lies one of the most peaceful and special spaces in the Metropolitan Park: the Mapulemu Garden. Its name means “forest of the land” in Mapudungun, and it was created in 1938 with the goal of preserving, educating and showcasing the richness of Chilean native flora.
Across its 4.5 hectares, you can discover more than 70 species from different ecosystems of the country, from trees to shrubs distributed by the northern, central and southern zones. All in a setting that invites you to walk calmly, observe nature and disconnect from the city's pace.
In 2024 it received certification from Botanic Gardens Conservation International (BGCI) for its great contribution to the conservation of native flora.
A space to connect with nature
The Mapulemu Garden is much more than a botanical garden: it is a place to learn, contemplate and enjoy Chile's natural heritage.
Its paths let you tour different themed areas, get to know native species such as mañíos, peumos, Chilean palm, araucaria, boldos, corcolén and espinos, and discover the importance of their conservation for future generations.
Another of this botanical garden's attractions is the medicinal plants area.
Thanks to its quiet environment surrounded by vegetation, it has become an ideal outing for families, nature lovers, photographers and those looking for a different experience within San Cristóbal Hill. A perfect visit to complement a ride on the Funicular, Cable Car or Panoramic Buses and keep discovering the most surprising corners of the park.
